BENTHALL HALL: Unexpected visit to glorious16th century house and gardens. No Commentary*
Описание
* No commentary but lots of conversation with the house guides about the history of the hall.
I stumbled across a Benthall Hall while out for work and came back a bit later to visit the place. It's a stunning National Trust owned property just outside of Ironbridge, so you can really make a day of it if you are visiting the area.
The building itself is fascinating and has survived in remarkable condition. Highlights are the tiled floor made by George Maw. A resepected tile maker who once owned the largest tile factory in the world and supplied tiles all over the world. In their own words:
" The 'Lists of persons and establishments supplied' ran to five pages and included the British Royal Family, Alexander II of Russia, maharajas, dukes, earls, railway companies, cathedrals, hospitals, public buildings, schools and colleges, and even warships."
There is also the Staircase which has some amazing designs from people who have never seen leopards before.
