RESIDENTS have been told to stay away after a horror blaze caused huge plumes of smoke and explosions were heard.
Locals in Birmingham spotted the dark grey cloud billowing into the skyline from around 3.30pm today.
Fire crews have urged the public to "avoid the area" with ten fire crews tackling the inferno.
It is believed the fire broke out in a car park near Lower Tower Street in the city, although this has not been confirmed.
Witnesses claimed a car was "engulfed in flames" in the Newtown area of the city.
About 50 firefighters are tackling a blaze on a large industrial estate in Birmingham.
West Midlands Fire Service said "multiple cylinders" were exploding at the site on Lower Tower Street in Aston. There have been no reports of injuries.
People were advised to avoid the area and those living nearby were told to "keep all windows and doors closed".
The fire was believed to have started at about 15:20 BST. The cause is not yet known but investigators have been sent to the scene.
Additional crews were sent after the first response and there are currently 10 crews on the scene, the service said.
