PLATYPUS BRINGS A SMILE

Platypus is a vessel that brings a smile when you see it.
At just 40 foot it is powered by a little two cylinder Lister engine, with the gearbox controlled by a long lever set into the spacious cruiser stern.
Platypus has been pottering around our canals since it was built in the 1980s by ‘Barney Morse Marine’, a narrowboat builder with a great reputation.
The new 4mm steel cabin was fitted in 2011 and coach painted in Norfolk green by Norbury Wharf Ltd.
The cabin was refitted in 2014 and the domestic water system was upgraded with a new polypropylene water tank, pump and accumulator along with plumbing and a new instantaneous ’Bosch’ water heater providing domestic hot water.

Platypus was insulated with rock wool with machined soft wood to gunwhale level and plywood to ceiling. A new multi-fuel fire was fitted with smoke alarm.

The boat was completely rewired, both the cabin and engine bay, and a Landstar solar panel and controller fitted. All the batteries have been recently replaced.

The hull was blacked and new anodes fitted in November 2020 by Norbury Wharf Ltd. There is a modern slimline 12v television with DVD player.

Inside it is largely open plan, giving a feeling of spaciousness, with that new solid fuel stove heating the whole vessel.
In the saloon there is a fold-out double bed, armchair and storage, adjacent to the galley which has a full sized cooker with four hobs. There’s also plenty of storage and a small fridge.
The front door opens up onto the bow deck which has a cratch and cover, giving extended dry space in Spring and Autumn. There is also a cover, not currently fitted, for the cruiser stern.
Platypus is as unique as it’s animal namesake – and there are no other animals alive related to the Duck-billed Platypus which is one of nature's most unlikely animals combining the bill of a duck with the tail of a beaver and the body and fur of an Otter.
It’s one of those boats you just have to see for yourself and we are sure someone will fall in love with this little bundle.
