Haymarket is a famous and historic shopping street in Sheffield City Centre that connects High Street, Commercial Street and Fitzalan Square with the old market area of the city centre.

Packed with notable streets like King Street, Dixon Lane and Castle Street, this part of Sheffield City Centre has seen much change over the years, most notably the recent demolition of the Sheaf Market and Castle Market buildings.

As you come down Haymarket from Fitzalan Square you see the old bank building on the corner off Commercial Street opposite KFC and the block of shops where Dunn and Co clothing shop used to be.

Further down Haymarket we come to King Street on the left leading up to Angel Street and home to a few market stalls and traders

Then we come to the shops B&M and Fultons before reaching Wilko and Shoe Zone opposite Heron Foods and the various amusement arcades and gambling places.

Towards the end of this Sheffield City Tour we reach the old markets area and Exchange Street and this is where Castle Market once stood on top of the site of Sheffield Castle!

Following the implementation of the 1994 City Centre Strategy eleven 'quarters' were defined within the city centre.

Following on from this, during the 2004 redevelopment of the city centre four 'districts' were identified within the city centre, primarily for aiding traffic.

Districts: Centre, Riverside, Sheaf Valley & West End

Quarters: Kelham Island Quarter, Riverside, Castlegate, Sheaf Valley, Cultural Industries Quarter, The Moor Quarter, Devonshire Quarter, St Georges Quarter, St Vincent Quarter, Cathedral Quarter and Heart of the City.

The Castlegate Quarter is one of the eleven quarters of Sheffield city centre. It is named after Castlegate, the quarter's main thoroughfare. The boundaries of the Castlegate Quarter are formed by Castlegate and the River Don to the north, Exchange Place to the east, Commercial Street and part of the High Street to the south, and Angel Street and Snig Hill to the west.

Sheffield is a city in the English county of South Yorkshire.
