Lanzhou Zhongshan Bridge, formerly known as the Yellow River Iron Bridge, is located in the middle of Binhe Road, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, under the Baita Mountain. It was changed to "Zhongshan Bridge" in memory of Mr. Sun Yat-sen. On May 9, the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1908), the construction of the Lanzhou Yellow River Iron Bridge officially started. On August 19, the first year of Emperor Xuantong of the Qing Dynasty (1909), the construction of Lanzhou Yellow River Iron Bridge was completed. Designed by the American Bridge Company, constructed by the German Tailor Company, and constructed by Chinese craftsmen.
The Lanzhou Yellow River Iron Bridge is the first bridge built with foreign technology in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province and even the entire Northwestern region in modern Chinese history. This special construction background and construction period made the Lanzhou Yellow River Iron Bridge a key to the study of modern history. It occupies a unique position in the history of Chinese architecture.
