50 mile Trail Ultra Marathon | Huge explosion | Big Hills | Amazing views!

In today's run I attempt to run a 50 mile ultra marathon on a hilly, muddy trail route with 6000+ft ascent. I was a little surprised when the Ironbridge Power Station Boiler Bay was demolished with a huge explosion (video of the demolition included)! I heard the sirens and watched the demolition and although i missed the event with my GoPro I have included some amazing footage within this video! I was treated to an incredible sunset at the Lilleshall monument, a truly memorable moment.

The Telford T50 50 Mile Trail was created to celebrate the new town's 50th anniversary in 2018. The T50 trail showcases the many beautiful green spaces, interesting places and industrial heritage that make Telford special.

I first ran this route in 2019 (unsupported) in 11hours (total time), I visited local shops for food and water on my run. On this run I only visited one shop and Laura met me at two locations to support me with food and water. Nutrition on today's run was simple. I carried two 500ml bottles of water, Soreen Malt Loaf mini bars, Orange SIS gels (I only had one). At each stop with Laura, I ate cheese and pickle sandwiches, two cups of coffee at each stop and a 500ml bottle of isotonic sports drink.

The 50-mile trail is split into seven stages:
Stage 1 | Telford Town Park to Ironbridge 10 miles
Stage 2 | Ironbridge to Little Wenlock 4 miles
Stage 3 | Little Wenlock to Wellington 8 miles
Stage 4 | Wellington to Horsehay 9 miles
Stage 5 | Horsehay to Oakengates 5 miles
Stage 6 | Oakengates to Lilleshall 6 miles
Stage 7 | Lilleshall to Telford Town Park 8 miles

Quite a few incredible runners have also ran this route now with some impressive times, well done to you all! One day I might run it again and not stop off to chat to people that I know and other walkers and runners (socially distanced of course), and I'm sure I would go under 10 hours. However, I run for fun and this route is not a race to me its just a great day out in my local area. Hopefully I will get to meet some of you other T50 finishers one day :)
